The 29th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team claimed a 7-2 win over Millsaps College at the USTA Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida on Monday.
The win was the Spartans fourth of the season, as the team improved to 4-2 overall on the season. Millsaps dropped to 7-2 on the year with the loss.
CWRU jumped out to the early lead in the match with wins at first and third doubles. In the first match, sophomores Madeleine Paolucci and Nicole Cardwell earned an 8-7 (7-6) victory over Grace Gaskins and Maggie Dabadie. At third doubles, sophomore Mira Amin and freshman Eliza Georgiades topped Morgan Jenkins and Jillian Sandoz 8-7 (7-4).
The Spartans lone doubles loss came in the second match, where freshmen Shreyaa Mukund and Sneha Karnam were bested by Ella Shields and Morris Kelly Clayton.
The Spartans went on to win five of the next singles matches. Paolucci bested Gaskins 6-4, 6-2 at first singles and Karnam fought hard to earn a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 victory over Dabadie. In the third singles match, Cardwell defeated Shields 7-5, 6-4, while Amin earned a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Jenkins at fourth singles. Freshman Nidhi Jha closed out the wins for CWRU on Monday, as she earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marissa Brown.
The Spartans lone loss came at sixth singles, where Mukund fell to Sandoz 6-2, 6-3.
Case Western Reserve will continue their spring break trip tomorrow when they face seventh-ranked Wesleyan University at 11:30 a.m. in Orlando, Florida.
