The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up wins on Friday night, with the men earning a 144-63 win over Notre Dame College, and the women claiming a 145-58 victory in the Veale Natatorium.
Prior to the start of the meet, the Spartans recognized three graduating men's team members – Keith Erichsen, Vinicius Okada da Silva and Brody Schmidt – and the 10 graduating women's squad members – Sydney Anderson, Vera Bostwick, Renee Decker, Alli Drohosky, Kelsey Holmberg, Lauren Homack, Bhavya Kumaran, Suhan Mestha, Alexa Simoneau and Karine Zeidan.
The win raised the Spartan men's record to 7-2 on the season, while the women moved to 8-2 in dual meet action this season.
The Spartan men and women combined to win 22 of the 26 events on Friday, including 11 first-place finishes for the men, and 11 for the women.
Freshman Nicholas Schoenig led the Spartan men, as he won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.60. He also added a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.18. In addition, the men's 200-yard medley relay team of junior James Pierre, junior Eli Rose, junior A.J. Quinn and sophomore Will McDonald claimed the win with a time of 1:39.47.
Other individual wins by the Spartan men on Friday came from Quinn in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:15.27), McDonald in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.21), senior Brody Schmidt in the 100-yard individual medley (56.470, freshman Ryan Gilbert in the 100-yard freestyle (50.44), freshman Kelvin Tay in the 100-yard backstroke (54.25) and freshman Neil Wible in the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.96).
On the boards, sophomore Cassiel Yuzik swept the two diving events with scores of 232.45 in the one-meter dive and 218.45 in the three-meter dive.
The women also picked up a win in the 200-yard medley relay, with seniors Bhavya Kumaran, Alli Drohosky, Alexa Simoneau and Suhan Mestha finishing first in the event with a time of 1:51.93. Mestha also added wins in the 100-yard individual medley (54.15) and the 100-yard freestyle (54.15).
Other individual wins by the Spartan women on Friday came from freshman Sarah Krueger in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:50.97), senior Kelsey Holmberg in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.78), senior Renee Decker in the 50-yard freestyle (25.43), junior Olivia Picchione in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.04), freshman Skye Fogle in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.37) and junior Sienna Picchione in the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.62).
Freshman Hailey Seibert came away with a sweep in the diving events, as she won the one-meter dive with a score of 185.05 and claimed the victory in the three-meter dive with a score of 208.90.
The Spartans will be back in action tomorrow, as they travel to Berea, Ohio to face the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets at 1:00 p.m in the BW Natatorium. This will be CWRU's final dual meet of the 2018-19 campaign.
