The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving team competed at a quad meet in Rochester, New York on Saturday afternoon, with both the men and women picking up a sweep.
The Spartan men defeated Gannon University (169-126), Grove City College (198-102) and the University of Rochester (187-111). The women also picked up their wins against Gannon (217-78), Grove City (232-68) and Rochester (165-135).
The Spartan men stand at 5-1, while the women are also 5-1 in dual meets this season, following Saturday's meet.
Sophomore Caitlyn VonFeldt and junior Olivia Picchione headlined the women's performances, with VonFeldt picking up two wins and Olivia Picchione also earning a pair of wins at the meet. VonFeldt won the 100-yard backstroke (59.27) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.48). Picchione won the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.72) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.48). In addition, senior Suhan Mestha won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.09.
Mestha and Vonfeldt also teamed with senior Alli Drohosky and freshman Anna Smith to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.91. Mesta and VonFeldt then teamed with freshmen Daniella Rupert and Sarah Krueger to finish first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.01.
For the men, four individuals claimed first-place finishes on Saturday. Sophomore Sean Twomey won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:59.64, while freshman Calvin Tecson placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 21.29. Freshman Neil Wible added a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (47.78) and freshman Michael Schiml claimed a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.71).
The Spartans will now turn their attention towards their final meet of the fall semester, the Wooster Invitational, from Thursday, November 29th through Saturday, December 1st.
