Kanagasegar and Paolucci's Run to Semifinals Leads Spartan Women at ITA Regionals

Senior Nithya Kanagasegar and freshman Madeleine Paolucci advanced all the way to the semifinals of the main doubles draw to lead the Case Western Reserve women's tennis team at the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III Central Regional Championships in Oberlin, Ohio.

The duo of Kanagasegar and Paolucci, seeded fifth in the draw, fell 9-7 to fourth-seeded Diana Aboubakare and Erika Oku of Kenyon in the semifinals.

In singles action, Kanagasegar lost 6-0, 6-0 to fifth-seeded Marjorie Antohi of Chicago in the main singles quarterfinals. Also competing in the main singles quarterfinals, Paolucci fell 6-0, 6-1 to Washington (Mo.) University's Grace Deering.

In the championship consolation doubles draw, senior Nina Cepeda and freshman Mira Amin claimed an 8-6 win over Chicago's Estefania Navarro and Adrienne Travis, then defeated Calvin's Leah Newhof and Madeline Brouwer 8-3. In the consolation semifinals, Cepeda and Amin defeated Otterbein's Sydney Bergman and Makayla Sutter 8-2, but fell in the finals to Illinois Tech's Weronika Morgan Colbert 8-1.

The Spartans will resume its fall season on Friday, October 20th when they open play at the Middlebury Invite in Middlebury, Vermont.
