Men's 4x4 & Laios Set CWRU Records during Friday's Meets

Two more school records fell for the Spartans on Friday, as the Case Western Reserve University 4x400-meter relay team of senior Nathaniel Wahner, junior Andrew Ibibo, sophomore Joseph Cabral and freshman Jonathan Haling broke their own mark in the 4x400-meter relay, and junior Cassandra Laios topped her program-best mark in the hammer throw at the Harrison Dillard Twilight, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio on Friday.

The men's 4x400-meter relay finished second in the event with a time of 3:13.62, which shattered their previous school-record time of 3:15.98, set earlier this season at the UAA Championships.

Laios finished first in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.30 meters, smashing her previous school-record mark of 50.35 meters set earlier this season.

Other top performers for the Spartan men at the Harrison Dillard Twilight were Wahner in the 100-meter dash (second, 10.84) and 200-meter dash (third, 21.82), freshman Dominic Oddo in the 110-meter hurdles (third, 15.54) and long jump (fifth, 6.58 meters), freshman Brian Holden in the javelin throw (third, 56.19 meters), sophomore Ananth Suresh in the triple jump (fifth, 12.82 meters) and senior Nico Ericksen-Deriso in the 400-meter dash (fifth, 50.42).

For the women at the meet, sophomore Shannon Carroll took the title in the javelin throw with a mark of 35.64 meters, junior Rachel Willard was the runner-up in the triple jump with a distance of 10.45 meters, junior Nimi Gupta placed fifth in the hammer with a toss of 45.32 meters and Laios added a fifth-place finish in the shot put (11.85 meters) and sixth-place finish in the discus throw (37.81 meters).

Meanwhile, at the Gator Invitational, hosted by Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, junior Sam Merriman claimed the title in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:04.89, while senior Galen Caldwell earned a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:44.82.

The Spartans will have one more chance to improve on their qualifying marks for the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, when the team heads to the Great Lakes Elite Meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio on Thursday, May 18th.
