CWRU Men's 800-Yard Free Relay; Hudgins Claim All-UAA Honors on Friday

The Case Western Reserve University men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of junior Drew Hamilton, junior Oliver Hudgins, sophomore Brody Schmidt and senior Andrew Henning finished second in the event and Hudgins placed third in the 200-yard freestyle to highlight the Spartans' Friday night performances at the 2017 University Athletic Association Championships in Chicago, Illinois.

Hamilton, Hudgins, Schmidt and Henning finished second in the event with a time of 6:45.24, good for an NCAA 'B' cut. Hudgins placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.68.

Individually for the men, Hamilton placed sixth in the 400-yard individual medley with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 4:00.10. Freshman Mason Beck finished 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 57.29 and sophomore Neil Orton place eighth in the three-meter dive with a score of 340.15.

The Spartan men's 200-yard medley relay team of junior Aaron Pang, Beck, freshman John Libert and senior John Tomko added a seventh place finish in the event with a time of 1:35.31.

For the women, the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Bhavya Kumaran, sophomore Alli Drohosky, junior Inez Moore, and junior Jennifer Eurich placed seventh in the event with a time of 1:49.18. Moore and Eurich also teamed with sophomores Kelsey Holmberg and Lauren Homack to finish seventh in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 8:00.00.

Individually for the Spartan women, sophomore Casey Crowley added a 13th place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.42. Freshman Sarah Taekman placed 15th in both the 400-yard individual medley (4:41.14) and in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.33).

With one day remaining at the UAA Championships, the Case Western Reserve men are in sixth place with 562 points, while the women are in seventh with 382. Emory leads both team standings, with the women totaling 1,270 points and the men 1,181.5 points through three days of competition.

The 2017 UAA Championships will conclude on Saturday, with the women's one-meter, the 1,650-yard freestyle, the 200-yard backstroke, the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly and the 400-yard freestyle relay on the slate of events for the final day.
