Spartan Men Defeat ONU; Women Win over ONU and Hillsdale on Senior Day

The Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team picked up a 197-91 victory over Ohio Northern University on Saturday, while the women's squad defeated ONU 243-54 and defeated NCAA Division II program Hillsdale College 150-141 in the Veale Natatorium.

Prior to the start of the meet, the swimming and diving team recognized its three senior men's members – Andrew Henning, David Merriman and John Tomko – and the two graduating women's members – Emily Boluda and Selena Mufti for their dedication the program.

The win raised the Spartan men's record to 7-2 on the season, while the women also moved to 7-2 in dual meet action this season.

The men claimed 12 of the 16 events on Saturday, including a sweep of the relays. The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman John Libert, freshman Mason Beck, junior Aaron Pang and junior Oliver Hudgins won the event with a mark of 1:37.68, while Hudgins, junior Drew Hamilton, sophomore Brody Schmidt and Henning ended the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:11.85.

Three different Spartan men won a pair of individual events, with Hamilton finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.20) and 500-yard freestyle (4:46.93), Hudgins claiming the win in both the 100-yard backstroke (53.21) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.84), and sophomore Neil Orton sweeping the two diving events.

Adding wins on Saturday for the men were sophomore Keith Erichsen in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:57.31), Beck in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.87), Pang in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.41), Schmidt in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.18) and Libert in the 100-yard butterfly (52.98).

The CWRU women picked up first-place finishes in four of the 16 events during the meet, including a sweep of the diving events. Junior Brooke Hortness finished first in the one-meter dive with a score of 202.55, while sophomore Vera Bostwick won the three-meter dive with a score of 209.95.

Sophomore Casey Crowley won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.73, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of junior Inez Moore, sophomore Lauren Homack, freshman Rhiannon Reese and junior Jennifer Eurich won the event with a time of 3:42.10.

The Spartans will hit the road next weekend as they travel to Berea, Ohio to face Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday, January 28th at 1:00 p.m. in the team's final dual meet of the 2016-17 campaign.
