The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up wins on Friday night in the Veale Natatorium, with the men earning a 167-70 win over the College of Wooster, and the women claiming a 163-79 victory.
The CWRU men raised their record to 2-2 on the year and the women improved to 2-1, while Wooster squads dropped to 2-1.
The Spartan men and women combined to win 21 of the 26 events on Friday, including 11 first place finishes for the men, and 10 for the women.
Highlighting the meet for the Spartan men were senior David Merriman, and juniors Drew Hamilton and Oliver Hudgins. Merriman won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a career-best time of 10:09.59 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.75. Hamilton won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:59.88 and the 100-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 48.66. Hudgins won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.91 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:57.80. Hamilton and Hudgins also teamed with senior Andrew Henning and sophomore Brody Schmidt to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:13.92.
The Spartans won the 400-yard medley relay as well, with Henning, and juniors Ondrej Maxian, John Kilbane and Aaron Pang finishing first with a time of 3:37.47. Other individual wins by the Spartan men on Friday came from Pang in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.22), Schmidt in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.19) and freshman Mason Beck in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.08).
The women also picked up wins in both relays on Friday night, with sophomore Bhavya Kumaran, freshman Monica Khare, sophomore Allie Drohosky and junior Inez Moore finishing first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:07.86, and Moore, sophomore Kelsey Holmberg, freshman Rhiannon Reese and junior Jennifer Eurich winning the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:44.65.
Moore added a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a career-best time of 54.31, while Eurich won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.45. Other individual wins by the Spartan women on Friday night came from freshman Sienna Picchione in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:02.94), freshman Julia Ver Voort in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.66), sophomore Casey Crowley in the 200-yard butterfly (2:14.39) and freshman Sarah Taekman in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.12).
Junior Brooke Hortness came away with wins in both women's diving events, registering scores of 195.05 in the one-meter dive and 201.15 in the three-meter dive.
