Box Score SANFORD, Fla. - The Case Western Reserve University baseball team fell 6-2 to No. 2 Emory University at the 2015 UAA Baseball Championship, dropping the Spartans to 1-1.
Sophomore outfielder Aaron Cain (Hartville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) and senior third baseman Andrew Gronski (Hilliard, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) each produced two hits as the Spartans totaled 10 hits, but stranded 11 runners on base.
The Spartans tied the game 1-1 in the second inning when senior shortstop Kerrigan Cain (Hartville, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) singled and scored on a double by senior first baseman Robert Winemiller (Twinsburg, Ohio/University School).
CWRU cut the deficit to one run, 3-2, in the fifth innning when sophomore centerfielder Antonio Damiano (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) doubled in freshman second baseman Alex Capetillo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin).
Sophomore Connor Faix (Brunswick, Ohio/St. Edward) gave up three runs, two earned, and struck out five in five innings of work.
The Spartans return to action with a 2:00 p.m. game tomorrow against Brandeis University.
