Spartan Swimming & Diving Rolls to Wins over Oberlin

The Case Western Reserve University swimming and diving teams each picked up victories in their home-opening meet of the 2015-16 season, with the men defeating Oberlin College 165-82, and the women claiming a 191-102 victory.

Both Spartan squads raised their season ledger to 5-1, while the Oberlin men and women each dropped to 1-2.

Freshman Suhan Mestha won three individual events for CWRU on Saturday, claiming victories in the 100-yard backstroke (59.59 seconds), 200-yard backstroke (2:08.61), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:14.45).  She also teamed with freshman Noora Khiraoui, senior Rebecca Pakradooni and freshman Renee Decker to win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:04.73.

Sophomore Jennifer Eurich swept the freestyle sprint events with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (25.36 seconds) and 100-yard freestyle (54.87 seconds), and added a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay along with sophomore Inez Moore, Decker and freshman Lauren Homack.  In the 100-yard breaststroke, freshman Alli Drohosky finished first with a time of 1:09.95, and sophomore Brooke Hortness swept the women's diving events with scores of 201.20 on the one-meter board and 188.40 on the three-meter board.

Senior Connor Farrell added wins in both men's diving events, recording scores of 279.85 in the one-meter dive and 286.10 in the three-meter dive.

Sophomore Drew Hamilton paced the Spartan men on Saturday with wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.68) and 100-yard freestyle (48.93 seconds), and sophomore Oliver Hudgins added a sweep of the individual backstroke events with times of 54.34 seconds in the 100 back and 1:58.94 in the 200 back.  Hudgins also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 400-yard medley relay, teaming with senior Elliott Kerbel, senior Alec David and senior Aaron Tam for a time of 3:34.35.

Kerbel added a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.87.  Also claiming victories on Saturday for the CwRU men were freshman James Hisnanick in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:45.12), sophomore Aaron Pang in the 200-yard butterfly 1:56.36), and freshman Brody Schmidt in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.91).

CWRU will be off from competition next weekend, before hosting Gannon University and Grove City College for a tri-meet on Saturday, November 21st at 1:00 p.m.
