CWRU Swimming & Diving Sweeps Wooster on Friday

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up wins on Friday night, with the men earning a 159-78 win over the College of Wooster, and the women claiming a 133-108 victory.

The CWRU men and women both raised their season records to 4-1 on the year, while both Wooster squads dropped to 2-1.

The Spartan men and women combined to win 20 of the 26 events on Friday, including 11 first-place finishes for the men, and nine for the women.

Highlighting the meet for the Spartan men was sophomore Drew Hamilton, who was a part of two pool-record setting performances.  The first came in the 400-yard individual medley, which Hamilton won with a time of 4:12.80.  He later teamed with senior Aaron Tam, sophomore Oliver Hudgins, and senior Alec David to set a pool record in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:12.91.

The Spartans won the 200-yard medley relay as well, with Tam, senior Elliott Kerbel, David and Hudgins finishing first with a time of 1:38.11.  Other individual wins by the Spartans men on Friday came from freshman Keith Erichsen in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:09.74), Kerbel in the 50-yard freestyle (22.17 seconds), David in the 100-yard butterfly (52.26 seconds), Tam in the 100-yard freestyle (48.15 seconds), freshman Brody Schmidt in the 500-yard freestyle (4:51.32) and sophomore John Kilbane in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.37). 

On the boards, senior Connor Farrell swept the two diving events with scores of 286.10 in the one-meter dive and 317.30 in the three-meter dive.

The women also picked up wins in both relays on Friday night, with freshman Bhavya Kumaran, freshman Alli Drohosky, senior Rebecca Pakradooni, and freshman Lauren Homack finishing first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.84, and freshman Suhan Mestha, freshman Renee Decker, Kumaran and sophomore Inez Moore winning the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:42.07.

Mestha would win a pair of individual events as well, claiming the top-spot in both the 400-yard individual medley (4:47.96) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.48).  Moore added a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (25.59 seconds), while Pakradooni won the 100-yard butterfly (59.98 seconds) and Decker claimed first in the 100-yard freestyle (55.80 seconds). 

Sophomore Brooke Hortness came away with wins in both women's diving events, registering scores of 200.05 in the one-meter dive and 210.90 in the three-meter dive.
