FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Playing its fifth nationally ranked opponent of the spring, the No. 27 Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought, 5-4 decision against No. 19 Skidmore College (N.Y.) on day two of Mary Washington University's Blue/Grey Invitational.

Now 1-1 for the weekend, the Spartans dip to 6-5 in dual matches this season. Skidmore moves to 9-2.

The Spartans grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to wins on courts two and three by the partnerships of freshman Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, Texas/Baylor School & Suffield Academy) and sophomore Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) as well as sophomores Taylor Sweeney (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) and Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake). Berchuck and Khadilkar won 8-5 over Rachel Plevinksy and Zoe Vallela, while Sweeney and Djohan beat Melissa Hirsh and Yum Karlshoej, 8-1.

CWRU's two singles point came from Berchuck and Khadilkar at four and five. Berchuck beat Monique Carlson 7-5, 6-1, and Khadilkar defeated Vallela 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The Spartans wrap up the weekend versus No. 1 ranked Johns Hopkins University (Md.) on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
