CHICAGO – Sophomore Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) broke the school record in the 200-yard freestyle, and the Case Western Reserve University men's swimmers placed second of 10 teams at the Midwest Invitational on Friday and Saturday, February 21-22 at Myers-McLoraine Pool.
Tam, who broke a 25-year old school record in the 100 fly at the University Athletic Association Invitational last Sunday, swam a 1:41.52 during his leg of the 800 free relay time trial at Chicago. That broke senior teammate Sean McHenry's (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) mark of 1:41.55 that was set back in December.
While the season comes to an end for most of the team, several Spartans still maintain a shot at qualifying for the NCAA Championship Meet. Senior Sean Nickley (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) entered the weekend ranked 10th in the nation in the 200 breaststroke after his time of 2:01.77 last Saturday.
The 800 free relay quartet of Tam, McHenry, junior Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) and freshman Andrew Henning (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) also maintain an outside shot.
In addition, senior Daniel Jacobson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) will compete at the NCAA Diving Regional in Granville, Ohio next Saturday, March 1.
The 2014 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship Meet is scheduled for March 19-22 at IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
