CLEVELAND – Led by seven multiple-event winners and eight victories for the senior class, the Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team defeated cross-town rival Baldwin Wallace University by a score of 180-70 on Senior's Day at Veale Natatorium.
The Spartans conclude the dual meet portion of the 2013-14 schedule with a mark of 8-2.
Junior Andrew Bollinger (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) was a three-time winner with individual victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:19.79) and 100 backstroke (53.11). Bollinger was also part of the 200 medley relay team that raced to a first-place time of 1:38.57.
Also part of that relay team were juniors Aaron Yeung (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Johns Jesuit), Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) and Caleb Allen (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden).
Individually, Yeung also claimed victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.90, while Haufler placed first in the 100 free in 47.21.
Seniors Gus Bailey (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), Scott McHenry (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and Daniel Jacobson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) were all double-winners.
Bailey took first place in the 50 free (21.94) and was a part of the 200 freestyle relay that finished in 1:27.93. McHenry was also a part of the 200 free team, and he claimed the top spot in the 50 butterfly in 24.27. Jacobson won both diving events with scores of 331.60 on the 1-meter board and 324.55 in the 3-meter event.
Sophomore Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) was also a two-time winner in the 100 fly (52.37) and 500 free (4:53.84).
Other seniors who finished first in their final home meet were Kyle Petersen (Nassau Bay, Texas/Lutheran South Academy), Sean Nickley (Springfield, Va./West Springfield), Sean Corcoran (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), Nick Clyde (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) and Heath Hudgins (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill).
The Spartans now have more than a week off from competition in preparation for the 2014 University Athletic Association Championship hosted by Emory University on Thursday-Saturday, February 13-15 in Atlanta. Each day will run with 10:00 a.m. prelims and 5:30 p.m. finals.
