Zargham Falls in Opening Round of NCAA Singles Championship

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Freshman Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) made program history on Thursday morning as the first woman from Case Western Reserve University to compete at the NCAA Division III Singles Championship.

Due to inclement weather, matches were moved indoors to the Markin Center and postponed nearly two hours.

Competing in the round of 32, Zargham fell in straight-sets (6-2, 6-1) to sophomore Megan Buell of Washington & Lee University (Va.). Buell is ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South Region, while Zargham is tied for fifth in the Central Region.

Zargham finishes her season at 16-11 overall in singles play.

The season officially ends for the No. 24 Spartan women (12-9), who earned the first national ranking in program history in 2012-13.
