No. 13 Spartan Men Claim 6-0 Victory in Rain-Shortened Match at Previously Unbeaten Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The No. 13 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team picked up a 6-0 dual match win on Friday afternoon versus regional foe Allegheny College. The match was shortened due to rain.

With the victory, the Spartans, also ranked No. 2 in the rugged Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region, have won three in a row and improve to 18-5. With the loss, the Gators suffer their first defeat and fall to 10-1.

The Spartans picked up all three doubles points and three singles matches before mother nature prevented the final three from finishing.

Freshman Christopher Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and senior Kyle Gerber (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory), the Central Region's No. 11 doubles team, cruised to an 8-3 decision versus Patrick Cole and Frank Mosconi.

Juniors John Healey (Columbia, Md./Atholton) and Ben McClarren (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) also scored an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles versus Alex Hurtuk and Sam Stephenson, while seniors Richard Brunsting (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and Alex Solove (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy Liberty) rounded out the sweep with a narrow 9-8 victory in the third slot versus Tyler Triolo and Daniel Conroy.

At No. 3 singles, Gerber cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory versus Hurtuk, while junior Derek Reinbold (Carmel, Ind./Park Tudor) improved to 18-9 overall and 14-6 in dual matches with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 versus Mosconi.

At No. 6, Healey improved to 18-6 this spring and 10-2 in dual matches with a 6-1, 6-2 victory versus Thomas Manning as the other three matches went unfinished.

The Spartans will have eight days off from competition before playing their lone home match of the spring on Saturday, April 20 versus Division II Walsh University. The match will serve as the team's Seniors' Day as well as a "Rally for the Cure" event with all proceeds going to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
