THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.– The No. 30 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team concluded its west coast spring break trip with a 9-0 sweep of California Lutheran University on Friday evening at the Poulson Tennis Center.
With the win, the Spartans move to 9-5 in dual matches, while the Regals, ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region, fall to 4-9.
In doubles play, Case secured all three points. Senior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) and freshman Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) claimed the No. 1 spot with an 8-0 victory over Emily Werman and Carly Mouzes. The duo of freshmen Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and Taylor Sweeney (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) posted a similar 8-0 shutout at No. 2 versus Jacqueline Ramsay and Lindsay Murphy.
To close out doubles play, senior Emily Pham (Mason, Ohio/William Mason) and sophomore Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) grabbed the point at No. 3 with an 8-2 decision over Lauren Toohey and Sarah Baker.
In singles action, the Spartans claimed all six points highlighted by a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 by freshman Lauren Rovner (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee). The first-year Spartan has reeled off four-straight singles wins and improved to 8-1 overall.
The Spartans head back from their west coast trip and have a two-week layoff before their next match scheduled for Saturday, March 30 at Allegheny College (Pa.). First serve in Meadville is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
