CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 30 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis battled No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer College to the brink of a decision, but the hosts rattled off four-straight singles victories en route to a 5-4 decision on Thursday evening at the Pauley Tennis Complex.

With the loss, the Spartans slip to 8-5 in dual matches, while the Sagehens, ranked No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region, remain perfect at 7-0.

In doubles play, Case took two of the three matches. The No. 2 tandem of senior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) and freshman Surya Khadilkar (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Hawken School) claimed the first doubles point with an 8-4 victory versus Arthi Padmanabhan and Lea Lynn Yen.

After the hosts garnered the point at No. 3, the duo of freshmen Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and Taylor Sweeney (Fort Gratiot, Mich./Port Huron Northern) posted an 8-6 win in the top spot against Sammy Chao and Kara Wang to give the Spartans a 2-1 edge.

In singles, Pomona-Pitzer rattled off four-consecutive victories at No. 3, No. 1, No. 4 and No. 2, respectively, and claimed the team victory. However, freshman Lauren Rovner (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) improved to 7-1 overall with a three-set 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 6 against Priya Amritraj, while Khadilkar provided the final Case point with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 victory at No. 5 versus Lea Lynn Yen.

The Spartans will conclude their spring break trip to California on Friday afternoon versus No. 18 California Lutheran University. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. PDT in Thousand Oaks.
