CHICAGO – Freshman Jacob Kasper (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) placed fourth individually to lead a trio from Case Western Reserve University in the top seven of the one-meter dive on the opening night of the 2013 University Athletic Association Championship Meet at the Ratner Center.
Through one event, the Spartans rank second with 73 points behind host University of Chicago's 84. New York University (61), University of Rochester (N.Y.) (22) and Washington University-St. Louis (20) also scored in the event.
The championship gets into full swing tomorrow with 11 events scored between swimming and diving. Prelims are slated for 10:00 a.m. (CDT), while finals commence at 6:00 p.m. (CDT).
Kasper just missed out on All-UAA honors with a fourth-place finals score of 463.25. During the morning prelims, the freshman totaled 453.50 points.
Also competing for the Spartans, junior Daniel Jacobson (Solon, Ohio/Solon) placed sixth (455.80), and freshman Connor Farrell (Bedord Corners, N.Y./Fox Lane) was seventh (439.55).
Male divers will have tomorrow off from competition, but will return to the pool for the three-meter event on Saturday. Prelims are slated for 12:45 p.m. (CDT).
