BEREA, Ohio – A small contingent from the No. 22 nationally-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's swimming & diving team concluded the dual meet portion of the 2012-13 schedule with a 153-72 victory at local-rival Baldwin Wallace University on Friday evening at the BW Natatorium.
The Spartans improve to 14-2-1 overall in duals this season heading into the University Athletic Association Championship on February 13-16 in Chicago. The Yellow Jackets fall to 2-8.
Underclassmen played a key role in the victory with eight of the 10 Spartan individual wins. Sophomore David Wolfson (Austin, Texas/Liberal Arts and Sciences Academy) accounted for one of those victories with a time of 10:34.11 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
In first event of the night, the Spartans won the 200-yard medley relay with the quartet of sophomores Eric Haufler (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key), Elliott Kerbel (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) and Andrew Bollinger (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) along with freshman Jason Arne (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) finishing in a time of 1:40.27.
In the 200 freestyle, the Spartans claimed the top-three slots with Arne taking first with a time of 1:49.08. Freshman Alec David (Somerdale, N.J,/ Triton Regional) followed in a time of 1:51.94, while freshman Daniel Sederholm (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) wound up third in 1:52.23.
Haufler and Kerbel placed first in individual events as well. Haufler won the 200 individual medley in 1:59.84, and Kerbel paced the field in the 50 backstroke (27.37) with an impressive three-second winning margin.
Other top finishes came from senior Chris Emr (Rockville, Md./Thomas S. Wootton) in the 50 free (22.79), just .29 off a career best, senior Kyle Tepe (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) in the 50 breaststroke (22.83), sophomore Caleb Allen (Knoxville, Tenn./Bearden) in 100 free (50.88) and freshman Aaron Tam (Doral, Fla./Ronald Reagan Doral Senior) in the 500 free (4:49.25).
Freshman Jacob Kasper (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) won both diving events for Case with 161.65 points in the one-meter dive and 244.35 points in the three-meter event.
