OBERLIN, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team kicked off its 2011 fall schedule by competing at the 2011 Oberlin College Invitational. The three-day event took place on the Don Hunsinger Courts from Friday, September 16 through Sunday, September 18.

The freshmen trio of Alison Althans (Gates Mills, Ohio/Gilmour Academy), Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont), and Angie Korpusik (Campbell, Calif./Presentation) each went 2-1 during singles action.

Althans lost her first match on Friday to Ohio Northern University's Kristin Timperman by a 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 score. She then rebounded to defeat Janna Dickerson of Allegheny College (Pa.) by a 6-3, 6-3 score on Saturday and Samantha Stulen of Ohio Northern on Sunday by a 6-2, 7-5 tally.

In her first collegiate action Friday, Bonanno battled Ramona Czakon of California University of Pennsylvania, an NCAA Division II institution, and lost 6-1, 6-0. Much like Althans, she rebounded to win her next two matches cruising in straight sets over Finley Gates of Oberlin on Saturday by a 6-2, 6-0 score and Grace Porter of Oberlin by a 6-1, 6-2 tally on Sunday.

Korpusik came out quickly in Friday's action and picked up the lone victory for the Spartans during singles play on the opening day. She defeated Kathleen McBride of Allegheny in straight sets (7-5, 6-1). She then improved her individual mark to 2-0 on Saturday defeating Ohio Wesleyan University's Alex Webb (6-1, 6-4) before falling to Allegheny's Dickerson (6-3, 6-2) on Sunday.

Junior Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and sophomore Bianca Patel (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) went 3-0 in doubles action. The duo defeated John Carroll University's Joanne Weber and Tracy Gibson by an 8-6 score. They edged by the duo of Dickerson and Elyse Schmitt of Allegheny 8-5, and then completed their 3-0 weekend with an 8-2 victory over Ohio Wesleyan's Emily Kiourtsis and Lydia Tritschler.

Freshman Morgan Hertik (Nashville, Tenn./Ensworth) and Korpusik also went 2-1 during doubles action. In Friday's play, the tandem defeated Allegheny's Laura Steele and McBride by an 8-3 score before beating the duo of Hannah Baumwell and Katelyn Hill of John Carroll on Saturday, 8-6. The duo's lone setback came early on Saturday against Baldwin-Wallace College's Whitney Yoder and Jenny Greene, 8-4.

The Spartans hit the courts again on Friday, Sept. 23, when they travel to cross-town rival Baldwin-Wallace for a 4:30 p.m. match against the Yellow Jackets at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Courts.
