CLEVELAND, Ohio– Despite a 20-point, 11-rebound effort from junior forward Erin Hollinger (Chardon, OH/Chardon), the Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team lost to Emory University (GA) by a score of 57-53 on Friday, February 18 at Horsburgh Gymnasium. The game was designated as a Pink Zone event with all proceeds going to benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

The Spartans fall to 12-11 overall and 6-6 in the University Athletic Association. Emory snaps a three-game losing skid and improves to 10-13 (3-9 UAA).

In addition to Hollinger's third double-double of the season, senior forward Caitlin Henry (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) scored eight points and is now just five shy of becoming the 11th woman in school history to reach 1,000 career points.

Emory was led by Hannah Lilly with 15 points, Becca Feldman with 10, and Danielle Landry with a game-high 14 rebounds.

In the first half, the Spartans moved ahead 14-10 when sophomore center Emily Mueller (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) beat the buzzer with a jumper at 11:38. The Eagles scored five straight and grabbed their first lead of 15-14 following a Lilly three-pointer with 10:42 left before half.  Each team then took turns with the lead before an 8-0 Emory run ending in a three-point play by Melissa Koike gave the Eagles a 27-21 advantage with 4:27 remaining before the break. Emory's lead grew to a first-half high of seven as Courtney Von Stein hit two free throws to make the score 34-27 heading into intermission.

In the second half, Emory led the entire way and saw its advantage grow to eight on four separate occasions. The Spartans got to within three, at 42-39, following a triple by sophomore forward Marissa Miles (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) at 9:54. The Eagles answered with a 5-0 run to lead 47-39 as Landry scored a pair with 4:49 left to play. Case got as close as two, at 50-48, following a 9-3 run ending in a Hollinger layup with 37 seconds remaining. However, Emory was able to end the game on a 7-5 run with the help of five free throws.  

The Spartans are back in action this Sunday, February 20 versus nationally-ranked (#15/16) University of Rochester (NY) at 2:00 p.m. Prior to tip-off at Horsburgh, CWRU will honor Hollinger for reaching 1,000 career points two weekends ago.
