Behind a 10-run seventh inning, the Case Western Reserve University softball team defeated New York University 15-5 on Saturday night at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx, New York, to complete a three-game series sweep.
The Spartans improved to 18-9 with the victory and 6-3 in University Athletic Association contests, while the Violets dropped to 6-23 overall and 0-12 in league play.
Stats and Standouts
- Three Spartans—junior infielder Kaelyn Zusi, sophomore infielder Kate Coonan, and junior outfielder Alaina Steffes —each had three hits in the game
- Steffes and sophomore outfielder Ashley Miller both had three runs batted in during the contest with Zusi and junior infielder Karen Potts each adding two RBI

- CWRU improved to 26-5 against NYU all-time, extending the winning streak in the series to 18 games
- The Spartans last scored 10 runs in an inning on March 4, 2017, in a 12-0 win over Rutgers-Camden
- The 15 runs are tied for the eighth most in a single game in program history and are the most since CWRU plated 16 runs against Carnegie Mellon on April 23, 2022
- It marked the fourth time the team scored at least 10 runs in a contest this season
- The Spartans recorded 18 hits, one shy of program record of 19 last set on March 20, 2021, against Kenyon
- Since April 4, Zusi is seven-for-13 (.538) at the plate with four runs scored and eight RBI
- Ching, who recorded hits in all three games of the series, went six-for-11 (.545) against NYU with two walks, two stolen bases, four runs scored, and three runs batted in. She extended her hitting streak to seven games on Saturday
