Fox’s Career Day Not Enough in 101-93 Loss to No. 5 Emory

Despite a career-high 35 points from senior forward Andrew Fox off the bench, the Case Western Reserve University men's basketball team came up short in its upset bid of fifth-ranked Emory University on Friday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland, falling to the Eagles 101-93.

The Spartans dropped to 10-13 this season and 2-10 in University Athletic Association play, while the Eagles improved to 19-3 overall and 9-2 in the league standings.

Stats and Standouts


  • Fox made 14 of his 17 shots from the floor and added seven points on 11 free throw attempts to surpass his previous career high of 24 points which he achieved while playing for RIT on January 7, 2023
  • Graduate student guard Ethan Edwards added 18 points with senior guard Anand Dharmarajan and first-year forward Alex Vincent contributing 12 points each
  • Fox and junior forward Logan Brown grabbed a team-high nine rebounds
  • Vincent paced the squad with five assists and contributed eight rebounds and a block
  • CWRU shot 56.7% overall and 33.3% from beyond the arc, while the Eagles made 47.6% of their shots and 40.6% of their three-point attempts

First Half


  • With the hosts down two early, an 11-0 Spartan run gave the team a 19-10 lead with Fox scoring six of the 11 points
  • Emory cut the deficit to three, 23-20, on a pair of free throws, but layups by Fox and junior guard Julian Scott and a jumper from first-year guard Drew Bartolai put CWRU ahead by nine again
  • A Fox layup with 4:12 left in the half gave CWRU a 41-27 lead, its largest of the night
  • Emory scored the next seven points and finished the half on a 15-4 run, making the score 45-42 at the break

Second Half


  • Emory immediately took a 46-45 lead on a four-point play to start the second half
  • Six minutes later, Dharmarajan drained a three-pointer to put the Spartans ahead 63-57
  • The Eagles responded with nine consecutive points to reclaim a three-point lead, and the visitors led by seven, 74-67, with 10:39 left in the game
  • Vincent cut the deficit to just two with a jump one minute later, but Emory used a 7-0 run to lead 81-72
  • With 4:10 left, a jumper by Ben Pearce gave Emory a 92-77 advantage, its largest of the night
  • CWRU was able to cut the deficit to under two possessions with 1:18 left, 95-90, thanks to a four-point play by Edwards and made free throws by Scott and Fox
  • However, Emory made its free throws in the final minute to secure the victory

Spartan Notes


  • Fox became the third Spartan to score at least 30 points in a game this season, joining Edwards and Dharmarajan, who each have accomplished the feat twice during the campaign
  • Edwards has scored at least 10 points in 15 consecutive games for the Spartans
  • Friday's loss was the Spartans' third-straight setback to Emory as CWRU dropped to 24-41 all-time against the Eagles
  • CWRU dropped to 4-4 at home during the 2025-26 season with two home games remaining on the schedule
  • The game was the seventh for the Spartans against a team ranked in the national top 25 this year with all seven contests coming in UAA play
  • First-year guard Shyam Patel had a season-high four steals in the contest

The Spartans will be back in action at Horsburgh Gymnasium on Sunday against the University of Rochester for their penultimate game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
