McCloskey, Wang Selected to NCAA Individual Championships

Senior Lily McCloskey and junior Katalina Wang of the Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team were selected to the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, as announced by the organization in a press release on Wednesday night.

The national singles and doubles championships are scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 24 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California. The singles bracket includes 32 players with two rounds played on Saturday and one round on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The doubles bracket features 16 pairings with one round of competition scheduled for each day. The draw for the individual championship will be completed by the women's tennis committee and released on Friday, May 23 by 1 p.m.

McCloskey and Wang are the top ranked doubles team in Region V according to the NCAA and the fourth-ranked pair in the Central Region and 22nd-ranked partnership nationally according to the ITA. The pair was named to the All-University Athletic Association Second Team earlier on Wednesday for its play at first doubles. This season, the duo is 17-5 overall, including a 12-4 mark at first doubles and 5-1 record in tournament play.

McCloskey, who earned All-UAA First Team honors for her play at first singles, is ranked third in Region V by the NCAA and eighth in the Central Region and 42nd nationally by the ITA. She went 15-8 this season in singles play, including a 9-6 record at first singles and 6-2 record in tournaments.

McCloskey is making her fourth consecutive appearance at the national championship after her selection to the doubles bracket with former Spartan Hannah Kassaie in each of the previous three seasons. Wang is making her first career appearance at the NCAA Championships. Kassaie and McCloskey matched the program record for furthest national run by reaching the quarterfinals in 2022, while the duo lost in the first round in both 2023 and 2024. Kassaie had the furthest-ever run by a CWRU student-athlete in the singles championship when she reached the national quarterfinals in 2023.

Additionally, graduate student Laurel Utterback was named the eighth alternate to the singles draw.

The Spartans will be represented at the NCAA Individual Championships for the 10th consecutive tournament, a streak dating back to 2015, and for the 11th year overall.
