The Case Western Reserve University baseball team, ranked 17th in Division III, ended its 2025 regular season with an 11-1 win over John Carroll University on Sunday afternoon at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Spartans will head into the NCAA Tournament on a five-game winning streak and stand at 27-12-1 overall. The Blue Streaks dropped to 22-15 with the loss, the team's fourth-consecutive setback.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Quinn Saunders pitched six strong innings to lead the Spartans to the win. He allowed just one run on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts, earning the win to improve to 3-1 with a 3.32 ERA. First-year Oliver Miller picked up the first save of his career with three scoreless innings to close out the victory, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out two.
After a scoreless first inning, John Carroll grabbed the lead with a run in the top of the second. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Spartans took the lead, sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs, all with two outs. A double by graduate student second baseman Franco Alonso scored graduate student designated hitter Dane Camphausen and evened the score at 1-1, and graduate student third baseman Zack Carinci followed with a run-scoring single to give CWRU the lead. Carinci later scored on an error to extend the lead to 3-1, and a wild pitch allowed junior center fielder Matt Trout to cross the plate and give CWRU a 4-1 advantage. Senior right fielder Nick Harms capped off the scoring in the fourth with a two-run infield single to push the Spartans' lead to 6-1.
Run-scoring singles by Alonso and Carinci and an RBI groundout by senior left fielder Logan Andreyko in the fifth extended the Spartans' lead to 9-1 In the eighth, Harms connected for a two-run home run, his career-best 12th of the season, to push CWRU's lead to 10 runs.
Harms finished the game two-for-four with a home run, a run scored, and four RBIs. Anderson added a two-for-three day with a run, two walks, and two stolen bases. Alonso (2-5, doubles, RBI, two runs) and Carinci (2-4, two runs, two RBIs) also had multiple-hit days for the Spartans, who outhit the Blue Streaks 12-4 on Sunday.
John Carroll reliever Kevin Holland suffered the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
The Spartans, who earned an automatic bid to the postseason by virtue of winning the University Athletic Association Championship, will now await the announcement of the field for the 2025 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, including regional hosts and first-round matchups. The tournament selection show will air on NCAA.com on Monday, May 12.

The Spartans entered the day ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III NPI, which is used to select teams and hosts for the NCAA Division III Championship. The Blue Streaks were ranked 85th in the latest NPI.

CWRU now stands at 27-24 against John Carroll since 1989 and has won seven of the last eight meetings. The Spartans won the season series with the Blue Streaks, winning two of the three games.
