Case Western Reserve University senior Ajay Mahenthiran, a member of the men's tennis team, and junior Lauren Iagnemma, a runner on the women's track and field team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.

Mahenthiran helped lead the fifth-ranked Spartans to their fifth consecutive national quarterfinals appearance at the NCAA Division III Championships, going 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles matches over a pair of tournament wins last weekend. In a 5-0 win in the second round over 56th-ranked Whitman College, Mahenthiran teamed with junior Rohan Bhat to win 6-2 in the third doubles match over Cameron Yang and Lucas Huang, and went on to claim a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the no. 1 singles match against Alexander Stage. The next day, he helped punch the Spartans' ticket to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-1 win against 16th-ranked Paolo Pocasangre as CWRU bested 13th-ranked Kenyon 4-0 in the third round. Mahenthiran, the 14th-ranked singles player in Division III, improved to 24-11 in singles matches and 20-6 in doubles play this season. The Spartans, 27-5 overall, will be playing in the NCAA quarterfinal round for the sixth time in program history.

CWRU will face the fourth-ranked University of Chicago on Monday, May 19 in Claremont, California, in a rematch of the University Athletic Association Championship played last month.

Iagnemma ran the third-fastest 5,000-meter run time in program history on Friday night at the Harrison Dillard Twilight hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio. Iagnemma won the event with a personal-best time of 17:03.07, beating runners from Division II and III schools across to the finish line. The time ranks 40th in Division III this season, sixth in the University Athletic Association, and seventh in the Great Lakes Region. Iagnemma ran the fastest time by the Spartan in the event in 15 years.

Members of the Spartan track and field teams will have two final opportunities to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships when the squads travel to Geneva, Ohio, for the SPIRE NCAA Last Chance Meet on Monday, May 12, and Alliance, Ohio, on Thursday, May 15 for the Mount Union Final Qualifier.

The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.

She struck out 10 batters and held opponents to a .243 batting average and 1.40 earned run average. She entered the first game of the series, a 6-4 loss, as a relief pitcher, allowing just one unearned run in four innings of work. Hosey retired the final 10 batters she faced in the contest. In the series finale, an 8-2 Spartan win, she pitched the first six innings to earn the victory in the circle, conceding just two runs while striking out three hitters. Hosey improved to 10-6 in 2025 with a 2.97 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 96 and two-third innings. The Spartans finished the regular season with an overall record of 28-10 and a 13-5 mark in league games, placing second in the UAA.

With the regular season complete, the Spartan softball team will await the announcement of the field for the 2025 NCAA Division III Softball Championship. CWRU, ranked 21st in the final NCAA Power Index (NPI) which is used to determine at-large selections, will likely receive a bid to the postseason for the fourth consecutive year. The pre-taped selection show will air later today on ncaa.com starting at 11 a.m.

Potts hit .500 (four-for-eight) in the three contests, driving in three runs, scoring four times, walking thrice, and stealing a pair of bases. She reached twice in the first game on two walks, scoring both times. In the second game of the series, a 3-2, eight-inning win, Potts singled twice in four trips to the plate.
