The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday for the two-day Wooster Invitational.
The CWRU men's team placed second out of 10 teams with 110.5 points, while the Spartan women's team finished fifth out of nine teams with 63.0 points.
Overall, Case Western Reserve placed first in three events at the invitational, which featured athletes from Division II and Division III institutions. Senior jumper Jordan Su won the triple jump by bounding 10.83 meters. On the track, junior sprinter/hurdler Josh Bates recorded the fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.04 seconds, and graduate student hurdler/jumper Yusuf Shaaban finished third in the event in 57.46 seconds. CWRU also placed first and third in the 5,000-meter run, with senior runner Stephen Henry crossing the line at 15:16.42 and sophomore runner Jacob Slater earning the bronze in 15:20.46.
The Spartan women's hammer throw group, which ranked first in Division III according to the most recent USTFCCCA Event Squad standings, earned second and third place finishes at Wooster. Graduate student thrower Ailean Duffie had a career-best mark of 48.00 meters and senior thrower Lauren Roskuszka tossed the hammer 45.88 meters.
Both CWRU squads did well in the javelin throw with the men's team placing individuals second and third and the women's team placing a competitor second. First-year thrower Ishaan Solanki was the runner-up in the event with a toss of 44.50 meters, and first-year thrower Joshua Kue finished third with a mark of 41.12 meters. For the women's team, first-year thrower Sarah Viveiros had the second-best throw of 31.10 meters.
A pair of individuals added third-place finishes in events. Senior jumper Quaylen Lamarre cleared 4.29 meters in the pole vault, and junior hurdler/sprinter Bryce Hodge ran a time of 15.31 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.
To end the competition, the 4x400-meter relay of Shaaban, junior Aaron Brula, senior Nicolas Lende, and first-year Charlie Stipanovich, placed third in 3:29.07.
Next weekend, the CWRU track and field teams will travel to Pennsylvania for the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted by Bucknell University and the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.
