The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor portion of their seasons with the two-day Washington & Lee Track & Field Carnival at Wilson Field in Lexington, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday.
The Spartans placed first and second in three events at the meet. In the field, graduate student Ailean Duffie won the hammer throw with a toss of 46.64 meters and senior Lauren Roskuszka finished second with a mark of 45.65 meters. For the men's team, senior Luke Kishna and senior Victor Nash crossed the line first and second in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 9:50.40 and 10:16.51, respectively. On the second day of action, Roskuszka won the javelin throw with a toss of 35.39 meters and first-year Nida Achramaviciute, making her collegiate debut, placed second with a mark of 33.35 meters.
Senior Jordan Su placed second in a pair of jumping events, leaping 11.06 meters in the triple jump and 5.19 meters in the long jump to finish as the runner-up in both contests. First-year Donovan Crowley had two podium finishes as well, taking third in both the 800-meter run (1:56.71) and 1500-meter run (3:58.54). Senior Hans Holst finished ahead of Crowley in the shorter event, crossing the line at 1:55.83.
In distance events, junior Ayla Grabenbauer placed second in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:36.46, and junior Julia Hluck took second in the 800-meter run in 2:20.91. Junior Josh Bates was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.13 seconds.
Senior Quaylen Lamarre cleared 4.31 meters in the pole vault to place second, first-year Pierre-Andre Geoffrion leaped 6.68 meters in the long jump to earn the silver medal, and first-year Ishaan Solanki threw the javelin 48.95 meters to finish as the runner-up.
The Spartan track and field teams will next head to Oberlin, Ohio, for the Bob Kahn Invitational on March 28 and 29.
