The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team won its first dual meet of the season, defeating 23rd-ranked Adrian College 25-13 on Saturday afternoon at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center in Adrian, Michigan.

The Spartans improved to 1-0 in dual meets, while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-1 in 2025.

How It Happened

• Adrian started with a major decision at 125 pounds
• Senior Art Martinez gave CWRU a 5-4 lead with a technical fall (19-4) in 6:04 over Jager Corliss at 133 pounds
• First-year Hunter Keane followed with a 5-2 decision at 141 pounds, and sophomore Robert Minden increased the lead to seven with a 5-3 decision at 149 pounds
• After a forfeit by the Bulldogs at 157 pounds, Adrian added six points with decisions at 165 and 174 pounds
• Junior Mathew Gummere stopped the losing skid with a major decision, 8-0, over Ben Grenesko, and senior Aidan Gassel secured the victory with an 11-0 major decision at 197 pounds

Spartan Notes

• Martinez tied for the team lead with his third technical fall of the season, and he improved to 111-33 for his career
• Keane won his team-leading ninth bout of the season
• Gummere secured the 51st win of his career, and Gassel improved to 43-24 for his career
