The Spartan Club, comprised of Case Institute of Technology (CIT), Western Reserve University (WRU) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) alumni, parents of current students, faculty and staff, and friends of the University, is aimed at helping foster and honor the proud tradition of athletics at the University, while also supporting the current student-athletes. Case Western Reserve University graduate student Michael Sutanto, a member of the men's tennis team, and junior Lexi Miskey, a pitcher on the softball team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.
Sutanto helped the fourth-ranked Spartans close out their regular season with three wins last weekend, going 2-0 in singles matches and 1-0 in doubles play. Sutanto began his weekend with an 8-0 win at third doubles with graduate student Diego Maza over Lucas Preston and Seth Keana in a 9-0 CWRU win over Kalamazoo. In a 7-2 win against fifth-ranked Denison, Sutanto was the first singles match to finish, claiming a 6-2, 6-0, victory at third singles over Ethan Green. He wrapped up the week by providing the clinching victory during the team's 6-3 win against 25th-ranked Carnegie Mellon with a 7-6 (5), 6-2, triumph over Nadim Motaghedi at third singles. He improved to 13-8 in singles play and 14-6 in doubles action this season with the victories. The Spartans have won 10 straight matches to end their regular season with a 23-4 overall record.
The Spartans will now turn their attention toward the postseason, beginning with the University Athletic Association Championship starting on Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. Seeding for the eight-team tournament will be announced early next week.
Miskey allowed just one earned run in 10 innings during the 10th-ranked Spartans' four-game sweep of Brandeis in Waltham, Massachusetts. Miskey struck out 16 batters in her 10 innings of work (11.2 per 7 innings), limiting batters to just five hits (.139 batting average against) and two walks. She picked up two wins in three appearances and had an earned run average of 0.70. In the first game of the series, Miskey allowed one hit in four shutout innings, striking out six batters to reach 500 for her career. She earned her 54th career win to break a tie with former Spartan Annie Wennerberg for the program wins record. The following day, she threw two scoreless innings in the circle with three strikeouts, and in the series finale on Sunday, Miskey allowed just one run in four innings while striking out seven, picking up the win in relief. This season, she is 16-3 with a 1.86 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 109 and one-third innings. CWRU improved to 28-5 overall and 13-3 in conference play, leading the UAA by one game with four contests remaining.Â
The Spartans will welcome rival Carnegie Mellon to Mather Park next weekend for the final conference series of the season. The first game of the four-game set is currently scheduled for Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m.
The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.

Senior sprinter Brett Callow (men's track and field) had a pair of top-two finishes for the Spartans at the 54th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational hosted by Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, on Saturday. Callow recorded the fastest time in the finals of the 200-meter dash of 22.04 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in the UAA this season. He also completed the 100-meter dash in 10.96 seconds to place second and rank fifth in the conference. Competing against student-athletes from all three NCAA Divisions, the Spartan men's team placed third out of 12 schools with 102.0 points.
The Spartan track and field teams will next head to Pittsburgh for the University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University at Gesling Stadium on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.
Graduate student first baseman Dane Camphausen (baseball) helped lead the 17th-ranked Spartans to three wins in four games at New York University last weekend. Camphausen finished the weekend batting .467 (7-for-15) with five runs, four runs batted in, two walks, two doubles, and two home runs to set the program record for home runs in a season with 12. He hit safely in all four games, including a three-for-four showing with a double, a home run, three runs, two runs batted in, and a walk in a 12-7 win over NYU in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, and a two-for-four game with a home run and a double in a 3-1 CWRU victory in the second contest of the day. Camphausen is batting .386 this season with 12 home runs and 48 runs batted in, including a .500 average (19-for-38) with six home runs and 22 RBIs in 11 UAA games. The Spartans improved to 27-8 overall and to 10-2 in UAA play.
CWRU will now turn its attention toward its final UAA series of the season at home against WashU next weekend. The Spartans and the Bears will kick off their four-game series on Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m.
Sophomore runner Ayla Grabenbauer (women's track and field) recorded two top-three finishes for the Spartans at the 54th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational on Saturday. As an individual, Grabenbauer was the runner-up in the 1500-meter run in 4:47.79. As a member of the 4x400-meter relay, Grabenbauer helped CWRU place third in the event in 4:09.15. Competing against student-athletes from all three NCAA Divisions, the CWRU women's team placed fourth out of 16 teams with 83 points.
Junior Hannah Kassaie (women's tennis) won both of her doubles matches for the 12th-ranked Spartans during the team's 1-1 weekend in Chicago. Kassaie and classmate Lily McCloskey earned the team's lone point in an 8-1 loss to fifth-ranked Chicago on Friday, defeating Rena Lina and Oliwia Mikos 8-6 at first doubles. The following day, Kassaie and McCloskey bested Natalie Bassett and Abigail Penados in a 5-0 win over 25th-ranked North Central. In singles play, Kassaie led Penados 6-3, 3-2 when the match reached a decision, and she fell 4-6, 6-7 (4-7) to Lin. This season, she is 21-4 in singles play and 23-1 in doubles play. The Spartans moved to 13-4 on the season.
CWRU will next head to Altamonte Springs, Florida, for the University Athletic Association Championship Tournament held at Sanlando Park from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28. The tournament bracket is slated to be announced early next week.
Graduate student Diego Maza (men's tennis) helped the fourth-ranked Spartans close out their regular season with three wins last weekend. Maza went undefeated for the weekend, winning both of his singles matches and all three of his doubles contests. During the Spartans' 9-0 win over Kalamazoo on Friday, Maza teamed with Sutanto for an 8-0 win at no. 3 doubles. Later in the day, Maza paired with senior Vishwa Aduru for an 8-3 win at no. 1 doubles against Colin Gramley and Ethan Green and claimed a 7-5, 6-3, win at no. 5 singles over Zachary Portnoy in a 7-2 CWRU victory over fifth-ranked Denison. In a 6-3 Spartan win over 25th-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, Maza and Aduru bested Raghav Jangbahadur and Daniel Kong 8-1 at no. 1 doubles, and he went on to claim a 6-2, 7-6 (8) win over Akshay Joshi at sixth singles. Maza improved to 19-4 in singles play and 25-8 in doubles matches this season.Â
First-year infielder Karen Potts (softball) had the best offensive series of her young career during the 10th-ranked Spartans' four-game road sweep of Brandeis. Potts went nine-for-14 at the plate (.643 batting average) with a .706 on-base percentage and 1.500 slugging percentage, culminating in a 2.206 OPS across 17 plate appearances. Of her nine hits, three were home runs and three were doubles. She scored nine runs, drove in six, and stole three bases in as many attempts. On the first day of competition, Potts went six-for-eight with two home runs, four runs batted in, five runs scored, and two doubles across two games. On Saturday, she managed just one hit but drew two walks and scored three times, and in the series finale, she hit a two-run home run and added a single in four at-bats. This season, Potts leads the Spartans with a .423 batting average, compiling a team-high 47 hits in 33 games, and has scored 33 times while driving in 27 runs.Â
Junior thrower Lauren Roskuszka (women's track and field) placed second in the javelin throw at the 54th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational on Saturday. Roskuszka recorded a mark of 37.97 meters to place second in the event, the fourth-best heave in the UAA this season.Â
First-year pitcher Quinn Saunders (baseball) helped the 17th-ranked Spartans to a 3-1 win over New York University in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Saunders started and pitched six innings, allowing just one run on five hits and three walks. The southpaw struck out 12 batters in the game, marking the fourth time this season he has registered a double-figure strikeout effort. He improved to 5-0 on the season with a 3.50 ERA and has struck out 69 batters in 36 innings of work.
Senior hurdler/jumper Yusuf Shaaban (men's track and field) won an event and added two top-four finishes for the Spartans at the 54th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational on Saturday. Shaaban helped CWRU sweep the hurdles events with a time of 55.54 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. He was also a member of the second place 4x400-meter relay that recorded a time of 3:23.30, and he placed fourth in the high jump after clearing 1.81 meters.
