The Spartan Club, comprised of Case Institute of Technology (CIT), Western Reserve University (WRU) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) alumni, parents of current students, faculty and staff, and friends of the University, is aimed at helping foster and honor the proud tradition of athletics at the University, while also supporting the current student-athletes. Case Western Reserve University sophomore Ayush Shetty, a right-handed pitcher on the baseball team, and senior Elizabeth Berry, a infielder on the softball team, have been named the Spartan Club Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week.

Shetty pitched four and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen without allowing a hit or a run to help lead the Spartans to an 8-7 come-from-behind win in 10 innings over New York University on Saturday. He entered the game with the Spartans trailing 7-5 and a runner on third with one out in the sixth, and proceeded to get out of the inning without allowing a run with a groundout and a strikeout. He would remain in for the remainder of the game, allowing just two baserunners - one on an error and the other on a walk, both in the bottom of the eighth - while striking out four batters in the outing. He pitched a one-two-three bottom of the ninth after CWRU came back to tie the game in the top of the inning, and retired the side in order in the bottom of the tenth as well after the Spartans took the lead to earn the victory in the contest. Shetty has appeared in 11 games out of the bullpen for the Spartans this season, going 3-1 with two saves, a 4.61 ERA, and 25 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. The Spartans stand at 17-17 overall with a 6-10 University Athletic Association record following last weekend's split with the Violets.

The Spartans will return home to wrap up UAA play with a four-game series against WashU, starting with a single game on Friday, April 24, at 3 p.m. at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland.

Berry led the Spartan offense during the team's series win over the University of Chicago last weekend at the Stagg Grass Field in Chicago. Berry hit .625 (five-for-eight) with a .667 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage across the three-game set. She drove in a team-high eight runs, scored five times, stole a pair of bases, and had three extra-base hits for a 2.011 on-base plus slugging. She started the weekend with a three-hit performance with two RBI, falling a double shy of the cycle in an 11-3 five-inning win. In the contest, Berry slugged her second homer of the season and recorded her first career triple. She drove in three runs in a 7-2 victory on Saturday, scoring twice and stealing a base. In the series finale, Berry contributed to four of the team's five runs in a 6-5 loss, driving in three runs and scoring once. She had a double and a steal in the game. In 30 games this season, Berry has a .322 batting average (third-best on the team) with a squad-pacing 33 RBI on seven doubles, one triple, and two home runs. CWRU improved to 20-10 overall and 8-4 in conference play after the 2-1 weekend.

The Spartans will return to Mather Park in Cleveland for their final three scheduled home games of the regular season next weekend, hosting Brandeis University on Friday and Saturday. Saturday will also mark Senior Day for CWRU, as the team will recognize its three graduating players.

The Spartan Club Athletes of the Week are selected by the CWRU Department of Athletics each Monday, based on their performance during the previous week of competition.
