In a preview of the site for the 2023 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in November, the Case Western Reserve University women's cross country placed third out of 19 teams at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pennsylvania on Saturday morning.
CWRU finished the women's 6K race with 103 points, placing behind first-place Calvin (56) and second-place Smith (95).
Sophomore Lauren Iagnemma was the Spartans' top finisher for the third time through as many races this season, finishing seventh out of 159 runners with a time of 22:41.8, just seven-tenths of a second off the best time of her career.
While Iagnemma's time fell just short of her career best, two Spartans did register the top 6K marks of their careers on Saturday. Sophomore Ayla Grabenbauer, who was fourth among Spartan finishers and 24th overall, completed the course in a time of 23:25.7, while sophomore Alyssa Storm, who was 10th among Spartans and 107th overall, registered a mark of 26:11.5.
In addition to Iagnemma and Grabenbauer, other Spartans in the team's top five including senior Grace Jackson, who was 19th overall with a time of 23:17.5, sophomore Ashley Novak, who placed 20th with a time of 23:25.7, and sophomore Arianna Holbrook, who was 40th overall with a time of 23:56.1.
Rounding out the team's top-seven finishers were junior Marquis Globokar (63rd, 24:34.0) and sophomore Julia Hluck (71st, 24:44.8). Also in action for the Spartans on Saturday were sophomore Anna Avila (79th, 25:05.7), senior Jessica Kwasny (87th, 25:29.8), junior Mandy Lam (117th, 26:33.0), junior Medha Patria (123rd, 26:44.5), first-year Angie Getz (127th, 27:08.3), and first-year Kara Kister (128th, 27:14.0).
Calvin's Hailey Erickson won the women's 6K with a time of 22:08.7.
The Spartans will be back in action for the third straight week next week, traveling to Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio for the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Friday, September 29.
