Two members of the Case Western Reserve University track and field teams completed their seasons on the first day of the 2023 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, New York on Thursday.
Senior runner Jack Begley placed 18th in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 29:44.46. Prior to the championship meet, he was seeded 13th after setting a school record in the event at the WashU Distance Carnival on April 1, completing the race in 29:41.72. This was Begley's second career NCAA Championship appearance after he placed 15th in the 5,000-meter run at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Junior thrower Adrienne Wachtman, making her NCAA Championships debut, placed 18th in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.99 meters. Heading into the event, she was seeded 17th, qualifying with a school-record mark of 41.71 meters that she achieved at the 2023 University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships on April 23.
The NCAA Championships continue on Friday and Saturday, though no CWRU student-athlete will be competing. Thursday's competition concludes the 2023 season for the Spartans and all competition for the 2022-23 academic year for Case Western Reserve.
