Box Score The Case Western Reserve University baseball team dropped the second game of a four-game to Emory University on Saturday afternoon at Nobby's Ballpark, falling 11-1 in eight innings to the Eagles.
The second game of Saturday's doubleheader was postponed and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, April 2 starting at 10:00 a.m.
The loss was the third straight for the Spartans who fell to 10-10 overall and 2-4 in the University Athletic Association. Emory improved to 15-9 with a 4-1 UAA record.
After a one-hour, 37-minute rain delay to start the game, both teams went scoreless through the first three innings of the game, before Emory score four runs (two earned) in the top of the fourth. The Eagles added two runs in the seventh and five in the eighth to take an 11-0 lead. CWRU scored its first run of the series on a two-out RBI single by junior first baseman Zack Carinci in the eighth, but the Spartans could not avoid the 10-run rule loss.
Carinci was one of the bright spots for the Spartans, finishing the game three-for-four with an RBI to raise his batting average to .316 for the campaign. Senior catcher Jack Anderson went one-for-three with a run scored to extend his hitting streak to 16 consecutive games. Sophomore outfielder Nick Harms and junior third baseman Grant Price also had base hits for CWRU on Saturday.
Graduate student Evan Faxon suffered the loss despite pitching well, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and two walks with eight strikeouts, dropping to 0-3 for the year. Emory's Joey Bock shut the Spartans out over his seven innings of work, earning the win to improve to 2-3.
CWRU and Emory will wrap up their four-game conference series tomorrow with the doubleheader starting at 10:00 a.m.
