Iagnemma Earns All-UAA Honors to Pace Spartans at UAA Championship

Case Western Reserve University sophomore Lauren Iagnemma earned the first all-conference honor of her career after finishing eighth to lead the Spartans at the 2023 University Athletic Association Championship on Saturday at the University Farm in Hunting Valley, Ohio.

Iagnemma finished eighth out of 74 finishers in the race, completing the 6K course in a time of 22:03.3 to earn a spot on the All-UAA Second Team. Iagnemma saw her place improve eight spots from her finish at the meet last year, when she narrowly missed out on an all-UAA honor.

Iagnemma helped pace the Spartans to a sixth-place finish out of the eight conference teams, as CWRU finished with a combined score of 165, just one behind Carnegie Mellon in fifth place. New York University won the women's team championship with a score of 34, and was followed by Chicago (46), WashU (71), and Emory (95). Trailing the Spartans in the standings were Rochester (192) and Brandeis (227).

Senior Grace Jackson was the second CWRU runner to cross the finish line, placing 26th overall in a time of 23:18.1. The next two Spartans crossed the line back-to-back, with sophomore Arianna Holbrook placing 50th with a time of 24:18.2 and junior Marquis Globokar finishing 51st in a time of 24:23.8. Sophomore Anna Avila completed the team's scorers, finishing 57th with a time of 25:05.5.

Rounding out the Spartans' top seven runners in the race were senior Jessica Kwasny (66th, 25:46.2) and junior Alyssa Storm (71st, 26:07.0). Sophomore Julia Hluck (72nd, 26:08.7) and junior Mandy Lam (73rd, 27:57.1) also competed for CWRU on Saturday.

NYU swept the individual awards at the meet in addition to winning the team trophy. NYU's Grace Richardson won the race to claim the UAA Championship with a course-record time of 21:34.5. The Violets' Morgan Uhlhorn placed fourth overall to finish as the top first-year runner and claim the UAA Rookie of the Year award, while NYU was also named the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year.

This was the fifth time in program history that CWRU has hosted the UAA Championship meet on its home course, and the first time since the 2009 campaign.

The Spartans will have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, November 11 for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship at the Silver Creek Metro Park in Norton, Ohio, where the team will be aiming to qualify for the National Championship meet. The women's 6K race is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.
