Box Score The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer celebrated 'Senior Night' at DiSanto Field by breaking a 16-year-old program record for goals scored in a game with an 11-0 win over Asbury University in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday.
The 11 goals scored broke a record previously set by the team on October 18, 2006, when the team scored nine goals against Meyers University. CWRU also set a program record with 11 assists, breaking the previous program record of seven, set against Muskingum last season.
With the win, the Spartans ran their winning streak to 13-straight games, the longest active streak in Division III and the second longest among teams across all three NCAA divisions. CWRU improved to 13-0-0 on the year and remained the only undefeated and untied team in Division III.
Senior Helina VanBibber, sophomore Carolyn Koutures, and first-year Maggie Farra each scored two goals in the first half to pace the Spartans' attack. First-years Ceci Dapino and Jamie Goldfarb each added a goal, giving CWRU an 8-0 lead by the end of the first half.
CWRU added three more goals in the second half with a 51st-minute strike for sophomore Sydney Schenk and goals in the 77th minute and 87th minute from sophomore Ashley Jacobs.
Senior Anika Washburn, graduate student Camryn Hartman, senior Merry Meyer, senior Aniya Hartzler, first-year Andrea Silva, Dapino, graduate student Samantha Cramin, first-year Mackenzie Mueller, senior Maia Sethi, junior Kati Davis, and Schenk each had an assist in the contest.
Junior Maggie Storti played the first half in goal, earning her 13th win of the campaign. Junior Sydney Stone and senior Anna Gurian split the second half in the net to complete the shutout.
CWRU finished the game with a 30-0 edge in total shots, including a 24-0 edge in shots on goal.
Asbury dropped to 3-12-2 with the loss.
Friday's game also marked 'Senior Day' for the Spartans, who recognized the team's seven graduating players – Cramin, Laura Gorjanc, Gurian, Hartzler, Meyer, Sethi, and VanBibber. The Spartans have compiled a record of 43-7-3 over the last four seasons, the best record for any graduating class in program history. With their contributions, the team has appeared in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll as high as fourth in the country, while reaching the NCAA Championships twice, including a best-ever finish in the round of 16 last season.
The Spartans will be back in action on Friday, October 28, beginning a stretch of three-straight University Athletic Association home games to conclude the 2022 regular season with a 7:30 p.m. game against the University of Rochester.
