Wahner Breaks School Record Again at Great Lakes Elite Meet

For the second time this season, Case Western Reserve University senior Nathaniel Wahner set a school record in the 200-meter dash to pace the Spartans at the Great Lakes Elite Meet, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio on Thursday, the team's final meet of the 2017 season.

Wahner set a school record in the 200-meter dash, finishing second in the event with a time of 21.43 seconds. That time bested Wahner's previous school-record time of 21.64 seconds, which was set at the UAA Outdoor Championships. Wahner also claimed the title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.11 seconds.

Wahner also teamed with juniors Ben Zelkin, Adrian Cannon and Zak Hurd in the 4x100-meter relay to finish fifth in the event with a time of 42.51 seconds. Freshman Dominic Oddo placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.86 seconds, sophomore Ananth Suresh finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.75 meters and freshman Jonathan Haling earned a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (50.04 seconds) and a 12th-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.57 seconds). In the throwing events, sophomore Tyler Bushman added an 11th-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.46 meters.

For the Spartan women, junior Cassandra Laios recorded a mark of 49.74 meters in the hammer throw to finish fourth, while junior Nimi Gupta placed sixth in the event with a toss of 46.94 meters. Junior Rachel Willard also added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.38 meters.

Case Western Reserve will now wait to see if any athletes qualify for the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. A total of 20 men will be selected to compete on the national stage from each event, while a total of 22 women will be selected to compete on the national stage from each event and that will be announced Saturday, May 20th at 9:00 a.m.

Should any Spartan earn a bid to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the competition is set to begin Thursday, May 25th and go through Saturday, May 27th in Geneva, Ohio at the SPIRE Institute.
