No 12 Spartans' Comeback Falls Short Against No. 13 Chicago at UAA Men's Tennis Championship

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL - The No. 12 fourth-seeded Case Western Reserve men's tennis team battled back from a 4-1 deficit, but fell short 6-3 to No. 13 fifth-seeded University of Chicago at the UAA Men's Tennis Championship.

The Spartans' No. 1 doubles combination of juniors CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) won by an 8-2 count.

Trailing 2-1 after doubles, CWRU dropped the first two singles matches to be decided, falling behind 4-1. However, victories by Krimbill and senior Will Drougas (Roanoke, Va./Salem) closed the deficit to one point. Krimbill trailed 5-2 in the opening set before running off five consecutive games to take that set 7-5 and cruised to a 6-2 win in the second set at No. 1 singles. Drougas won 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Both remaining matches went three sets before the Spartans dropped the point in each.

The Spartans, now 15-10 on the season, return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. against eighth-seeded NYU in the consolation semifinals of the UAA Championship.
