No. 8 Spartan Men Fall to No. 7 Johns Hopkins on Day One of ITA National Indoor Championship

ST. PETER, Minn. – The No. 8 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team fell 6-3 to No. 7 Johns Hopkins University on day one of the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III National Team Indoor Championship.

The three-day event is being hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College at the Swanson Tennis Center.

The Spartans (3-2) fell behind 2-1 in doubles play with their point coming at No. 1. Ranked 11th in the nation, juniors CJ Krimbill (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and Louis Stuerke (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) defeated Johns Hopkins' (1-1) No. 7-ranked tandem of Mike Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh.

In singles, the Spartans quickly tied the match when Krimbill defeated the seventh-ranked Buxbaum by scores of 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. The Blue Jays then moved back in front 3-2 with a victory at No. 2 before CWRU junior Viswajit Simhadri (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) tied the match one last time with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 3 against Ben Hwang.

Johns Hopkins then pieced together wins in order at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to clinch the victory. 

CWRU, a final four qualifier at last year's ITA Indoor Championship, will now compete on day two against host Gustavus Adolphus at 8:30 a.m. (CT).
