Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLEVELAND – A pair of shutout pitching performances and three homers in the opener led the way as the Case Western Reserve University softball team extended its win streak to seven with a doubleheader sweep of Thiel College (Pa.) on Sunday at Mather Park.

With victories of 7-0 and 8-0 (6 innings), the Spartans (19-9) have now won 9-of-10 overall and 12 in a row at home dating back to last season. The program's last home loss came on April 29, 2012.

The Tomcats drop to 12-10.

Freshman Annie Wennerberg (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) recorded her first career shutout in the opener, while sophomore Rebecca Molnar (Independence, Ohio/Independence) and junior Rebecca Taylor (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) combined for six shutout frames in game two.

Offensively, junior designated player Gena Roberts (Miami, Fla./Palmer-Trinity) was a combined 4-for-7 with three doubles and two RBI.

In game one, the Spartans scored one each in the second and the third as sophomore third baseman Erin Dreger (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance) hit a solo homer to center in the second. Two more runners came home in the fourth when Wennerberg went deep to left, and the Spartans put the game away with a three-run homer in the sixth by sophomore outfielder Kristen Klemmer (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park).

Wennerberg's (10-2) first career shutout required just 82 pitches as the rookie allowed four hits and one walk while striking out one.

At the plate, Wennerberg was 2-for-3 with a run, a stolen base and two RBI. Senior shortstop Makenzie Lein (Petersburg, Mich./Ida) also went 2-for-3 with two steals.

Amanda Callahan (5-3) pitched six innings in the loss for Thiel. At the dish, Molly Jo Everett was 2-for-3.

In game two, the Spartans scored two each in the first two innings. Roberts provided a two-run double to right center in the first. CWRU then plated three in the fourth and one to win the game in the sixth. The key hit in the fifth came when Lein singled home a pair.

Molnar (4-0) pitched the first four innings and struck out a pair while allowing three hits. Taylor struck out one in her two innings.

At the plate, junior outfielder Ashley Parello (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was 3-for-4, while Roberts went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
