Spartan Softball Back Home to Host Allegheny on Monday; Watch and Listen Live

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University softball team plays at home for the first time in more than two weeks with a make-up doubleheader versus Allegheny College (Pa.) on Monday, April 21 at 3:30 p.m. at Mather Park.

Watch both games live with commentary courtesy of Nick Minerd. The teams were initially scheduled to play on April 15, but that doubleheader was postponed due to inclement weather.

Ranked second in the NCAA Central Region, the Spartans (21-11) are 11-3 in their last 14 games played. The team is 4-0 at home this season and 12-0 at Mather Park since the beginning of the 2013 campaign.

Catcher Amy Taylor and second baseman Molly O'Brien are the team's top hitters with batting averages of .409 and .407, respectively. O'Brien leads the team in hits (48), runs scored (34) and stolen bases (14). Outfielder Ashley Parello, who is fourth on the team with a .381 batting average, is the leading slugger with four homers go along with 23 RBI. Shortstop Makenzie Lein, a .398 hitter, has three homers and a team-best 28 RBI. Designated player Gena Roberts has posted a .333 average with a team-high nine doubles and 21 RBI.

In 10 games during the month of April, Lein is batting .500  (17-of-34) with a home run, 14 RBI, 12 runs scored and five stolen bases in seven attempts. This season, she boasts a batting average of .398 with three homers and a team-best 28 RBI, and she ranks second on the squad with nine steals. Lein has started all 154 games over the past three-plus seasons and is a career .331 hitter with 12 HR, 94 RBI, 22 steals and a school-record 122 runs scored. She ranks fourth in program history in games started, third in hits (166), fourth in doubles (40), fourth in homers and fourth in RBI.

Lein is just five hits shy of tying the CWRU record of 171 held by Lauren Wolz (2009-12). Lauren Seeds (2005-08) is second on the all-time list with 168.  

On the mound, rookie Annie Wennerberg has appeared in 21 games with 17 starts and gone 10-3 with an ERA of 3.86. Wennerberg has also recored a team-high 69 strikeouts in 98 innings of work. Rebecca Molnar leads the team in ERA (2.38), while Rebecca Taylor has recorded four wins, three saves and a 4.27 ERA.

Earlier this season, the Spartans claimed a share of the program's first University Athletic Association Championship since 1999.

Representatives of the North Coast Athletic Conference, the Gators (12-17) have lost four of their last six games, including a doubleheader sweep at the hands of DePauw University (Ind.) on Saturday.

Offensively, the Gators are led by first baseman Halea Hayden, who is hitting .400 with seven doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and a team-high 20 runs scored. The team's top slugger is catcher Katrina George with a .370 average and team bests of five home runs and 26 RBI. Infielder Sadie Stuart has 13 extra base hits, including a team-high nine doubles, to go along with four HRs and 13 RBI.

On the mound, Caitlin Nealer (10-7) has appeared in 19 games and pitched a team-high 113 2/3 innings. She has posted an impressive 1.72 earned run average while holding opponents to just a .229 batting average with 136 strikeouts. Miranda Arison (1-0/3.33 ERA) has also thrown significant innings.
