CLEVELAND – Following a rain delay of nearly 30 minutes before Thursday's first pitch, a hail storm in the bottom of the second inning led to the eventual cancellation of the Case Western Reserve University versus Ohio Northern University baseball game on Thursday, April 25 at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians.
Thursday's event marked the ninth-straight season the team has played a game there as the program honored its five senior student-athletes before the game.
After an inning and a half, Ohio Northern led by a score of 1-0. However, the Spartans were threatening in the home half of the frame with runners on first and second and one out before the skies opened up and hail came pouring down leading to the game being called due to wet field conditions.
The Spartans remain at 23-10 and have won five of their last six and 14-of-18 overall. The team is scheduled to return to action this Saturday, April 27 at Nobby's Ballpark versus Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.) First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
