Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Sophomore forward Patrick O'Day (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) scored in the second overtime period to lead the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Muskingum University on Wednesday at McConagha Stadium.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 2-1 overall and will return to action this Saturday, September 8 at Olivet College (Mich.). Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
Muskingum suffers its first loss and slips to 1-1-1.
With just minutes left in the second OT, O'Day laced a shot off a throw-in into the box from senior midfielder/forward Rene Silva (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) past Muskingum goalkeeper Hunter Huffman toward the left post to find the back of the net. The goal is O'Day's second this season and the 13th career in just 22 matches played.
For the match, the Spartans outshot Muskingum, 18-5, and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jay Darby (Flower Mound, Texas/Argyle) came on to begin the second half and played 59:44 in net to earn his first victory of the season. Senior Ryan Koepka (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) started and made one save in the first half.
Muskingum's Hunter Huffman recorded four stops.
