The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest to fourth-ranked Emory University at DiSanto Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans dropped to 7-4-5 overall and 1-3-2 in University Athletic Association play, while the Eagles improved to 12-1-3 and 2-1-3 in UAA contests.
Stats and Standouts
- Senior goalkeeper Bradley Winter made a season-high six saves, playing all 90 minutes in goal for CWRU
- Sophomores Owen Guffey and Mitchell Fein each had two shots to pace the Spartans
- Emory held a 16-8 edge in shots on 11-1 advantage in corner kicks
- The Spartans committed just three fouls, compared to 14 for Emory, who also received three yellow cards
First Half
- Winter made his save in the eighth minute and followed with a save in the 16th minute to keep the Eagles off the board
- Fein attempted the host's first shot of the game in the 18th minute, necessitating a save by the Emory goalkeeper
- CWRU earned its lone corner kick in the 39th minute, but the Spartans were unable to convert as a shot by first-year Alex Eby was saved
- Neither team scored for the remainder of the half as the squads headed to the locker rooms in a scoreless game
Second Half
- Guffey had an early shot in the second half, missing high just 85 seconds into the period
- Winter kept the game scoreless, saving a shot in the 58th minute
- CWRU blocked a shot and prevented a score on a corner kick in the 60th minute
- A few minutes later, Winter made a pair of saves on another Emory attack
- However, the Eagles broke through in the 68th minute, scoring on a corner kick play
- Winter prevented the deficit from increasing, saving a shot in the 75th minute in between a pair of Emory corner kicks
- Case Western Reserve's last chance, a shot by sophomore Ashton McNally, was saved in the 87th minute
