The Case Western Reserve University softball team (21-14 overall) hosts local-rival John Carroll University (22-10 overall) for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Mather Park.

The Spartans, 15-7 since returning from their annual spring break trip in Florida, split a Seniors' Day doubleheader versus Adrian College (Mich.) this past Sunday with a 7-5 win in the opener and an 11-2 loss (5 inn.) in the nightcap. Freshman rightfielder Gena Roberts continued her torrid pace at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance in game one that included the game-winning three-run homer in the sixth inning. Case has already surpassed the team's win total from all of last season (19-25 overall), and the 21 victories this season tie for the fourth-most in program history.

For the season, Roberts is batting a team-best .415, including a .521 clip over the last 22 games, with team-highs of six homers and 44 hits to go along with 24 runs batted-in. Senior first baseman/designated player Lauren Wolz is second on the squad with a .366 average and has three homers and a team-best 25 RBI. Wolz is the school's all-time leader in career homeruns (23) and RBI (114), and she is just three hits away from tying Lauren Seeds' (2005-08) program record of 168. Freshman second baseman Molly O'Brien is third on the team in hitting at .350 and second on the squad with 42 hits, while pacing the team with 29 runs scored, two triples and 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts. Sophomore shortstop Makenzie Lein is batting .305 with a team-best 11 doubles to go along with a homer and 23 RBI, while senior third baseman Kaeleen Boden is second on the team with four homers and fourth with 22 RBI. 

On the mound, freshman Rebecca Taylor is the ace of the staff with a 15-10 record, two saves, a 3.07 earned run average, 19 complete games, four shutouts and a school single-season record-tying 151 strikeouts. Taylor is also approaching the CWRU single-season records for wins (17) and shutouts (5). Freshman Christina Hunger has missed the last six games due to injury and is 5-2 with a 2.45 ERA. Classmate Hillary Bunnelle has assumed Hunger's spot in the rotation and has a 1-2 record with one save in 17.2 innings of work.

The Blue Streaks have won four in a row with two consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference sweeps versus Otterbein University and at Muskingum University. Senior first baseman Olivia Matthews paced the game one victory at Muskingum with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, while sophomore outfielder Colleen Brady led an extra-inning charge in game two with four hits and four runs scored.

For the season, sophomore shortstop Samantha Becker leads the Blue Streaks at the plate with a .370 batting average, 40 hits, three triples, three homeruns and 21 RBI. Senior outfielder Michelle Murphy is a .353 hitter and is one of three Streaks with a pair of homers and one of eight with double-digit RBI (12). Senior third baseman Erin Riccardi checks in with a .316 average, two HRs and 18 RBI, while Brady also has two HRs with 15 RBI.

On the mound, Brittany Danilov is the ace of the staff with a 14-5 record, 2.11 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 129.1 innings pitched. Trish Pike has logged 81 innings with a 4.15 ERA and 42 strikeouts.
