Spartans Wrap Up Non-Conference Slate with Loss at Division II Notre Dame

Box Score

LYNDHURST, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team stepped out of University Athletic Association play for the final time in 2012 and fell by a 5-0 result to NCAA Division II and No. 23 nationally-ranked Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon on Korb Field at Brush High School.

Case slips to 3-11-1 overall and heads back into UAA play on Friday, October 26 versus the University of Chicago (Ill.). Kickoff at Case Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. as the program will honor its senior student-athletes prior to the contest.

With the victory, the Falcons, ranked No. 23 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America national poll, improve to 11-4.

In the opening half, Notre Dame recorded all the scoring it would need thanks to a quintet of scores from four different players along with a Spartan own goal. Eric Beattie scored in the ninth minute and Sam Vail in the 10th minute, while Ryan Ware's goal in the 18th minute and Colton Tanner's tally in the 33rd minute were sandwiched around the own goal.

Between the pipes, Case senior goalkeeper Ryan Koepka (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) dips to 2-9-1 and finished with a career-high seven saves, while Notre Dame's Jan Skorupinski (11-4) tallied one stop.

From a statistical standpoint, Notre Dame held a decided edge in shots by a 19-9 count, while the Spartans held a narrow advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
