Behind the first career multi-goal game from sophomore Micah Rossen, the Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team continued its unblemished start to the 2026 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Allegheny College on Sunday afternoon at DiSanto Field in Cleveland.

The Spartans improved to 6-0-0 this season, while the Gators dropped to 1-4-0.

Stats and Standouts

• Rossen scored twice for the Spartans, his team leading fifth and sixth goals of the season
• Junior Mitchell Fein tallied the game-winning goal in the 20th minute, his second score of the campaign, while also adding an assist
• Senior Philip Vlastaris had a pair of assists, his first career multi-point game, and seniors Ohta Kamiya and Cormac Apostolides added helpers for the Spartans
• Sophomore Carter Shedd made three saves, playing all 90 minutes for CWRU in front of the net
• CWRU had a 15-6 edge in shots, 8-3 advantage in shots on goal, and 4-3 lead in corner kicks, controlling possession for much of the contest

First Half

• The Spartans gave up an early own goal in the seventh minute, trailing for just the third time all season
• CWRU quickly responded with an equalizer by Rossen on a header
• Vlastaris sent a long ball from the defending midfield to Fein, who crossed the ball toward the middle of the box
• Rossen was there, leaned his head onto the ball, and redirected it past the goalkeeper to tie the score in the eighth minute
• The Gators had a blocked shot less than a minute later before junior Ashton McNally put had two attempts miss the mark
• CWRU took the lead in the 20th minute on Fein's fourth career goal
• Kamiya, about 35 yards away from the goal, sent a left-footed lob pass into the box
• Fein was the first to get to it in the middle of the area and chipped the ball of the oncoming goalkeeper into the back of the net
• Kamiya earned his first assist of the season on the play
• Case Western Reserve's next shot, which came 10 minutes later, resulted in the third goal of the half for the hosts
• Vlastaris sent a long throw in toward the far post, which Apostolides expertly headed to across the net
• Rossen connected with the ball and sent a shot inside the near post for his second tally of the contest
• Apostolides, who ranks second on the team with eight points, had his second assist of the campaign on the play
• The Spartans threatened to score in the final 10 minutes, including getting a shot by junior Amir Awais on target with eight seconds remaining in the half, but were unable to add to their lead

Second Half

• Allegheny, using a new goalkeeper in the second half, saved two shots early in the period before Shedd added a save in the 54th minute, his first of the game
• A few minutes later, he saved another shot, and the Spartans kept the resulting corner kick out of the net
• Graduate student Saiheed Jah almost scored his first goal at CWRU in the 74th minute, but the attempt was saved
• First-year Tad Woolfe nearly made the score 4-1 in the final minute, but his shot from outside the box hit the crossbar and Case Western Reserve settled for a two-goal victory

Spartan Notes

• The goal ended a stretch of 357 minutes and 31 seconds of scoreless game action for the CWRU defense
• The Spartans last won their first six games to start a season in 2007, going 8-0-0 to open the campaign 19 years ago
• Case Western Reserve improved to 11-18-5 all-time against Allegheny (since 1971) with wins in the last five meetings. The Gators have not defeated CWRU since 1998
• Rossen has logged at least one point in every game for CWRU this season, leading the squad with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists)
• Sophomore Alex Eby was the lone field player to not leave the game for the Spartans, playing all 90 minutes for the second time this season
• McNally led the squad with three shots as 10 different Spartans had an attempt at the net in the game
