No. 14 Spartans Fall to Eighth-Ranked CMU, 6-1

The 14th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday afternoon at the Carlton Courts in Cleveland.

The Spartans fell to 9-5, ending their three-match winning streak, while the Tartans improved to 14-4.

Doubles


  1. Graduate student Hannah Kassaie and senior Katalina Wang def. Ika Kanumuri and Rachel Li, 7-6 (10-8)

  • CWRU dropped to 2-13 against CMU since 2012 and 2-3 in the last five meetings
  • The match was the first this season for CWRU on its outdoor courts in Cleveland. The Spartans had won their last nine home matches overall with their last loss in Cleveland coming to Bowdoin on March 30, 2025
  • Saturday's loss marked the first time the Spartans won the doubles point but did not win the match. CWRU was 8-0 when it led 1-0 after doubles play this season
  • Kassaie, who won her 70th career doubles match, lost her first singles match of the season
  • Wang's singles loss snapped a streak of 12 consecutive victories

The Spartans will wrap up the regular season with a road matchup against Allegheny College on Friday, April 17 at 4 p.m. in Meadville, Pennsylvania. The following weekend, the team will travel to Florida for the 2026 University Athletic Association Women's Tennis Championship Tournament.
