#16 CWRU Storms Past Oberlin for 16-6 Win

The 16th-ranked Case Western Reserve University baseball team scored 12 unanswered runs to overcome a four-run deficit and defeat Oberlin College 16-6 in eight innings at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans improved to 5-2 with the win, while the Yeomen, who entered the day on a three-game winning streak, dropped to 3-3-1 with the loss.

Stats & Standouts


  • CWRU threw six different pitchers on Wednesday, and the Spartan bullpen allowed just two runs on three hits over seven innings, while striking out 10 batters.

  • Sophomore southpaw Jeff Radinsky pitched two perfect innings and struck out four batters, earning the win in the game to improve to 1-0 for the season.

  • Junior designated hitter Tyler Stillson went three-for-four at the plate with a walk, a stolen base, and a three-run home run, his first of the campaign.

  • First-year third baseman James O'Connor was two-for-four with a triple and four RBIs in the game.

  • Senior right fielder Matt Trout and first-year first baseman Tucker Greer each added two hits, as the Spartans outhit the Yeomen 13-6 in the game.

Highlights & Scoring Recap


  • Oberlin jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning.

  • Trout tripled with two outs in the first and scored on an error to get the Spartans on the board, 4-1.

  • The Yeomen added a run in the second to push their lead to four runs again, 5-1.

  • CWRU scored three in the bottom of the third to pull back within a run. Junior shortstop Nate Arterburn opened the frame with a seven-pitch walk and advanced to third on a one-out single off the bat of Stillson. Trout followed with a single to score Arterburn, and then Greer singled up the middle to plate two and make it a 5-4 score.

  • Oberlin added another run in the fourth, but sophomore pitcher Eric Colgrove got a fly out to end the frame and leave the bases loaded.

  • CWRU remained behind a pair until the bottom of the sixth. The Spartans loaded the bases with one out, and O'Connor singled to left to score two and even the score. The next batter, Stillson, homered over the leftfield wall, scoring three runs and putting CWRU ahead 9-6. 

  • Colgrove, Radinsky, and Anton Sabo retired nine straight hitters between the fifth and seventh innings to allow for the Spartans' comeback.

  • The Spartans added to their lead in the seventh, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs during the frame. Highlights from the inning included a two-run triple by O'Connor and a double by graduate student pinch hitter Eli Westrick that scored a pair of runs.

  • After Oberlin went scoreless in the top of the eighth, the game was stopped due to darkness.

Spartan Notes


  • The Spartans recorded their fourth double-digit hit effort of the campaign on Wednesday.

  • Despite hitting out of the leadoff spot in all seven games this year, O'Connor has driven in a team-high 12 runs.

  • Harris stole his team-leading seventh base on as many attempts this season in the game.

  • Stillson is now tied for 12th in program history with 11 career home runs. His three-run blast in the sixth inning was the first out-of-the-park home run by a Spartan this season.

  • CWRU has now won its last 11 games at Nobby's Ballpark, dating back to last season.

  • The Spartans improved to 38-18 all-time against Oberlin and have won six of the last seven meetings.

The Spartans will travel to Lexington, South Carolina, for the 2026 Spartan Southern Classic from Saturday, March 7, through Saturday, March 14. CWRU will begin play at the event with a doubleheader against Swarthmore starting at noon on Saturday.
